QQC #5

Quote: "In his scientific efforts Newton somewhat reassembled a live volcano, with long periods of quiescence punctuated from time to time by massive eruptions of almost superhuman activity."

Question: How could people trust in Newton if he seems to only come out to the light every specific moment? How is Newton’s mind when he is not having these "eruptions?"

Comment: It seems to me that if Newton had his moments of his ingenuity and smarts, that people would trust him because it seems that he would be the person to come, show his findings ands then just disappear. So I’m would really like to know how that worked. Did he go to gatherings? Was he actively in any sort of mathematicians group or council? What happened that made him have "eruptions" of thoughts and come up with a lot of the math we know today.

QQC #4

Quote: "At least today we can bring some sophisticated dating techniques to the table. For most of the nineteenth century geologist could draw on nothing more than the most powerful guesswork."

Question: How could the people trust on this geologist if there was no way of checking if they were right?

How can we be sure that our guesses are correct?

Comment: How could people in the nineteenth century believe this geologist? It seems that back in those times and even these days, people believe anything they hear. Because how can we be sure that anything is correct. we assume, and then p[rove. but it would seem that in those times what most people did was assume and just believe. it very impressive the faith that people had in these men. and when I say men I mean people who went to school and studied what they assumed to be correct theory and practice.

QQC #2

Quote: "Most people think that astronomers get out at night in observatories and scan the skies. That's not true. Almost all the telescopes we have in the world are designed to peer at very tiny little pieces of the sky way off in the distance to see a quasar or hunt for black holes or look at a distant galaxy. The only real network of telescopes that scans the skies has been designed and built by the military. We have been spoiled by artists renderings into imagining a clarity of resolution that doesn't exist in actual astronomy"

Question: Do you think that if artists did not "clarify" the pictures of the sky's , would people still be interested in that art? (Because it would turn into just one big blurry picture)

How can artist and astronomers connected through art?

Comment: At first glance this quote doesn't seem like it has much importance. But what the public doesn't know is that art is created by the beholder, how can we continue to let random people tell us what is art? the problem with todays society is that the are too blind to see what is behind the curtain. if people were to spend some time away from social networks, read a book and learn about the world around them then they would see how much our lives are controlled by others telling us what to think.

Quote:

“The bad news is that atoms are fickle and their time of devotion is fleeting-fleeting indeed. Even a long human life adds up to only about 650,000 hours. And when that modest milestone flashes past, or at some other point thereabouts, for reasons unknown your atoms will shut you down, silently disassemble and go off to be other things. And that’s it for you.”

Questions:

How did the author come up with this ideology of death?

Comment:

This statement to me is very powerful because it’s another point of view in death. I like how it has a sort of spiritual sense but it also has a scientific view to it. I like how they take a topic so complex and with so many angles and they simplify it to basic biography.
